Frans Schrofer
Frans Schrofer was born into a family of artists and furniture designers, his brother, Jurriaan Schrofer, was a renowned graphic designer and founder of Total Design, and his uncle Jan Schröfer, the co-founder of the furniture manufacturing firm de Cirkel Groep (that merged with Ahrend in the 1950s).
He is known for a sculptural approach to furniture design, conscious use of materials, practicality, ergonomics, technical knowledge and for pioneering a modern, design-led approach to garden furniture styles.
Born into a family of artists and designers, Frans Schrofer graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven in 1983 and started his own studio in The Hague a few years later. Studio Schrofer is known for its recognisable world of shapes and has won various international design awards for innovation, technology and sustainability. Schrofer’s ‘hands-on design’ guarantees ergonomically comfortable designs that are also visually appealing.
